Civil Defence Organisation launches Second phase of plantation drive at Jammu
Jammu August 8: Second phase of plantation drive was launched by the Civil Defence Organisation at Janipur Colony on 6th August 2006. The main aim of the plantation drive was to make environment of Jammu pollution free and to create an awareness in general public with regard to benefits of plants and trees.
Janipur area has been chosen because it has several parks which are not maintained properly and have become dumping grounds. The wardens and volunteers of the Civil Defence asked the people to plant saplings in these parks to make their best use.
SSP Police Control Room Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Baig was the chief guest on the occasion and he inaugurated the plantation drive. He stressed that more areas should be covered under the plantation drive and educational institutions and housing colonies be involved.
Deputy Controller Civil Defence Jammu DySP Manjit Kour, who is chief organiser of the plantation drive, said that all out efforts are being made to generate awareness among the people about plantation drive. She said that similar drives would be launched in more areas.
Chief Warden Jugal Mahajan said that besides plantation drive Civil Defence Jammu has also launched drive to generate awareness about the environmental hazards due to use of polythene bags.
Syed Ahmed Shah, Vinod Malhotra, Paramjeet Kumar, Smt. Kanta Bhan, Jagdish Kumar and Kaka Ram Civil defence wardens were among others present on the occasion. "
