Inter Zone sports meet concludes
Auxiliary Police, Home Guards Jammu declared overall champions

 

 

Jammu, December, 4th: Three day Inter Zone Sports Meet organized by Jammu and Kashmir Home Guards and Civil Defence at Gulshan Ground concluded today.

In all 242 players of Auxiliary Police, Home Guards and Civil Defence of Kashmir and Jammu range participated in different games like Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Tug of War and athletics.

While Auxiliary Police and Home Guards Jammu were declared the overall champion, Mr. Mohammad Azim of Home Guard Jammu was the best athletes. Civil Defence, Kashmir Zone won the football championship while as Auxiliary Police Jammu cliched the volleyball, Kabaddi and tun of war championship.

Financial Commissioner, Home, Mr. Verghese Samuel, who was the Chief Guest, distributed trophies among the winners and runner ups.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Samuel said that the volunteers taking part in games were trained in drill discipline and civil defence techniques which are imperative in the different functions of Police like maintenance of law and order, traffic regulations and disaster Management.

Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, who was Guest of Honour, said that sports events are being organized by the Police Department to promote fitness and sportsmen ship, adding the players who show outstanding performance in sports are being given recognition. He said such events also provide a chance for the players to interact with each other. He said the role of Home Guard and Civil Defence volunteers is commendable and they were constituted to help the community in times of need. He appreciated the role of IGP Home Guard, Civil Defence and Auxiliary Police, Mr. S. Gopal Reddy for organizing such event and assured all possible assistance be provided to the players of the wing.

Besides, senior police officers, a large number of police personal and Home Guard volunteers and retired police officers were present on the occasion.
