Debate Competition of school children in Disaster Management

Civil Defence Srinagar organized a debate competition among the school and college students at IMPA Srinagar on 26th July 2005.The topic of the debate was “Disaster Management is too important to be left in the hands of government alone”.

Director General of Police Sh.Gopal Sharma was the chief guest while Sh.Kuldeep Khoda ADGP CID presided over the function. Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP Civil Defence welcomed the guests and briefed them about the aims and objectives of the debate. Speaking on the occasion DGP called for greater role of NGOs in supplementing government efforts in Disaster Management and providing immediate succour to the affected population. He also advised the students to take interest in extra and co-curricular activities for facing future challenges and all round development. DGP lauded the organizers for organising such a debate on the important and relevant topic, adding that such interactions were necessary for creating awareness among the public. Later on DGP distributed prizes among the winners of the debate competition.

Family Welfare Activities of Auxiliary Police

For promotion of talent amongst the children of Auxiliary Police personnel an on spot essay competition, quiz competition and song and dance contest was held in Aux. Police lines Barzulla, Srinagar on 6th July 2005.

Sh Kuldeep Khoda Addl.Director General of Po-lice CID J&K was the chief guest on the occasion. While addressing the audience occasion Sh. Khoda complemented the Auxiliary Police & Civil Defence in organising such competitions and said that such talent contests go a long way in recognizing inherent talent amongst children and creating avenues for their further development. Later on he also distributed prizes among the winners. Prominent among those present were Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP, Sh M.A.Danposh SP, officers and families of Auxiliary Police personnel.

 

Civil Defence in the Aid of Amarnathji Yatra

Home Guards /Civil Defence and Auxiliary Po-lice is rendering yeoman service during the performance of annual Amarnath ji Yatra with dedication and devotion. Six G.O’s, 43 lower subordinates and 364 Homeguards Volunteers are engaged on Yatra duty. Civil Defence Srinagar also established a camp at Nagbal Srinagar for the assistance of the Yatries enroute w.e.f.6th July 2005.

Civil Defence Rescue operations during Floods

During the recent flash floods in Jammu, Civil Defence Volunteers did a yeoman service by saving precious human lives and property. Two Civil Defence Volunteers namely Sh.Chandan and Sh.Tara Chand rescued two ci-vilians Sh.Darshan choudhery and Sh.Garu Ram resident of Kullian & Toph manhasan respec-tively, who got entrapped in the floods. These two divers were rewarded by the Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP Civil Defence in a function at Akhnoor.

 

Central Training Institute at Jammu made functional

A permanent Central Training Institute has been made functional at Jammu to cater the training needs of Homeguard and Civil Defence Volunteers. Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP inaugurated the CTI on 14th July 2005. The first batch comprising of 136 Homeguard volunteers have started training here w.e.f 12th July to 15th August 2005. Similar Central Training Institute for Kashmir is also under process.

 

Akhnoor declared as civil Defence town

Akhnoor was formally declared as Civil Defence category town by Sh.Navin Agarwal, IGP Homeguards/CivilDefence/Auxiliary Police J&K at Akhnoor on 15th July 2005.

Locals of Akhnoor welcomed the IGP and his team and hailed the declaration of Akhnoor as Civil Defence Town. While addressing an im-pressive gathering IGP announced that Akhnoor Town would comprise of five sectors and a Civil Defence Control Room will be established.

Prominent among those present were Sh.Gulzar Singh Slathia DIG, Sh.Mukesh Singh SSP Jammu, Mohd Majid Malik Dy.SP, Sh.Mohd Taj Dy.controller Civil Defence Akhnoor, Sh.Jugal Mahajan Chief, Sh.Paramjit Kumar Dy.Chief warden, Sh.J.L.Sharma, Smt Kanta Bhan both Divisional warden besides senior wardens and volunteers.

 

Training of Civil Defence Women Volunteers at Udhampur

Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP Civil Defence J&K along with Sh.Gulzar Singh Slathia DIG Civil Defence Jammu visited Udhampur on 18th July to review of Civil Defence activities in the town.

On this occasion a Civil Defence demonstration was also conducted exclusively by the women Civil Defence volunteers who underwent 10 days Basic training. Sh.Satvir Gupta DIG UdhampurDoda welcomed such initiatives by Civil De-fence and said that they would also contribute to peace and harmony in the town. Later on IGP distributed certificates and pocket money among the Civil Defence Volunteers. One day convention of Civil Defence.

A one day convention of Civil Defence volun-teers of category -1 town Jammu who have been imparted Civil Defence basic & advanced training in the recent past was held at Aux. Police Line on 19th July 2005 to assess the organisational capabilities and mobilisation of volunteers during any calamity, in which about 2000 volunteers participated. Sh.B.R.Sharma Div. Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest while Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP pre-sided over the function.

Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP while speaking on the occasion said that this is an occasion for the volunteers to interact with each other as well as with the administration. While inaugurating the convention Sh.B.R.Sharma appreciated the efforts of Civil Defence volunteers in the recent flash floods in Jammu and advised them to be always the first responders during any eventuality. Sh.Haridesh Kumar Controller Civil Defence cum Dy.Commissioner Jammu also addressed the gathering. Sectors wardens were selected on spot in consultation with wardens and volunteers.Sh.Niyaz Mahmood DIG Jammu-Kathua Range presided over the concluding function. Prominent among others present were Sh.T.Punchok CO Aux.2nd Bn., Sh.S.M.Khatotra SSP,Ms.Manjit Kour, Dy.Controller CD Jammu.

Sunderbani declared Civil Defence Towns

Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP Civil Defence formally declared Sunderbani as Civil Defence Town on 22nd July 2005. He was accompanied by Sh.Gulzar Singh IPS DIG Civil Defence Jammu. Addressing the gath-ering Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP announced that Sunderbani Civil Defence town will comprised seven sectors and a Civil Defence control room with infrastructure will be provided. He also inaugurated the Civil Defence post at Sunderbani and Sh.J.P.Singh SSP Rajouri was also present on the occasion.

 

Nowshera a new Civil Defence Town

Nowshera was formally declared as Civil Defence town by Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP Civil Defence on 22nd July 2005 .He was accompanied by Sh Gulzar Singh Slathia DIG Civil Defence Jammu and Sh.J.P.Singh SSP Rajouri. On this occasion he also inaugurated Civil de-fence office at Nowshera.Locals of Nowshera hailed the declaration and volunteered to make the Civil Defence scheme a success.

Sh.S.S.Sambyal, Tehsildar Sunderbani, Sh.Mubashair Latifi SDPO Nowshera,Mohd Ma-jid Malik Dy.SP, wardens of Rajouri and Volunteers were present. Sh.Abdul Qayoom Dy.Controller Civil Defence Rajouri organized the functions.

Civil Defence Camp at Patnitop

A Civil Defence camp was organized at Patnitop w.e.f. 22nd to 24th July 2005 in which 112 volunteers participated. Sh. Navin Agarwal, IGP

Civil Defence alongwith Sh. Gulzar Singh Slathia, DIG Civil Defence Jammu visited Civil Defence Camp at Patnitop and Supervised the training imparted during the camp. IGP distrib-uted uniforms and Badges of rank among the wardens of Udhampur.

On 23rd July 2005 Sh. Agarwal also formally declared Doda as a Civil Defence town. Locals of Doda welcomed the IGP and his team and appreciated his efforts in bringing Doda town on the map of Civil Defence. While addressing the gathering IGP called upon the public to join the Civil Defence to make it a mass movement and work selflessly for the betterment of society.

He also announced that sector wardens and post wardens will be selected in consultation with the Civil Defence volunteers and prominent citizens of the town and a Civil Defence control room will be established. Sh.Gulzar Singh Slathia educated the public about Nishkam Sewa.
