Awareness programme by Civil Defence Srinagar

A View of the awareness programme at RCDCC Srinagar


Civil Defence Srinagar organized a Quiz-cum Awareness Programme on 5th August 2006 at its Regiona1 office Kothibagh Srinagar. Shri Navin Agarwal, IPS Inspector General of Police Civil Defence J&K chaired the programme. Mrs. Dilshada Akhter Additional Commissioner Kasmir was the guest of honour. She advised the students to say "NO to drugs/ smoking.” During the programme a film on "Earthquake preparedness and mitigation" was also shown. Students from twenty educational institutions took part in the said programme. On this occasion, Shri Navin Agarwal, IPS Civil Defence J&K highlighted the aims & objectives of Civil Defence and exhorted upon the student community to participate in the Civil Defence activities as they can play an important role during disasters. At the end, the students were given prizes by the chief guest. Among other distinguished guests Prof. G.M. Dar (IMPA), Dr. Shaqfat Ahmad Health Officer SMC Srinagar, Shri G.M. Wani (VHAI), Shri Gh.Sarwar Chouhan, SSP SO to IGP Hgds/CD and Sh.M.A. Dainposh Commandant Aux. Police 1st Bn. Srinagar witnessed the programme.

 


 

 

Civil Defence organises plantation drive

Civil Defence Organisation launched a plantation drive in Jammu city on 6th August 2006. The main aim of Civil Defence was to create an awareness with regard to benefits of plants. SSP Police Control Room Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Baig was the chief guest on the occasion who inaugurated the plantation drive. He stressed that more areas should be covered under the plantation drive, educational institutions and housing colonies be involved. Deputy Controller Civil Defence Jammu DySP Manjit Kour organised the plantation drive. Chief Warden Jugal Mahajan of Civil Defence Jammu also spoke on the occasion. Sh.Vinod Malhotra, Sh. Paramjeet Kumar, Smt. Kanta Bhan, Sh. Jagdish Kumar, Syed Jamil Shah and Kaka Ram Civil defence wardens were among others present on the occasion.

As a measure of man management and welfare, a darbar of Aux.Police personnel was held at Bn. Hq. Srinagar on 7th August 2006 in which jawans besides all the senior officers were also present. Jawans highlighted problems related to their promotions, transfer, messing facility, uniform articles, transportation and service. Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K Srinagar listened to the grievances of Jawans and gave on spot instructions for their redressel. IGP pinned ranks on the recently promoted jawans and also congratulated them.

 


 

 

IGP inaugurates workshop on Rugby

A two-day workshop on the fast developing sport of Rugby was inaugurated by Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP HG/CD J&K at Government College of Physical Education Ganderbal, organized by J&K Amateur Rugby Association on 8th August 2006. About 100 participants from outside the state also took part in the workshop.Secretary general of Amateur Rugby Federation of India Sh. V.P.Singh, SSP Ganderbal and chairman Muncipal council Ganderbal besides others attended the event.

 

 


 

 

Independence Day celebrations

Civil Defence J&K for the first time participated in the Independence Day Parade both at Srinagar as well as Jammu. At Srinagar civil defence contingent was lead by Sh.Mohd Yousaf. The civil defence contingent in Jammu was lead by post warden Manjit Singh Sodhi. Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP Civil Defence J&K, on whose directions the civil defence took part in Independence Day Parade, appreciated the wardens & volunteers.

Besides this Aux. Police & Homeguards contingents also took part in the Independence Day Parade. In Jammu Aux. Police contingent was lead by Dy.SP Sh.T.R.Rana of Aux. Police 2nd Bn. Civil Defence volunteers also rendered their services during the Independence day celebrations in regulating traffic & assisting police in the Law & Order duties.


 

 

IGP Homeguards/ Civil Defence & Auxiliary Police J&K awarded Police Medal for Meritorious services

 

Shri Navin Agarwal, Inspector General of Police, Homeguards/Civil Defence & Aux. Police J&K has been awarded President’s Police Medal for Meritorious services on the Independence Day, 2006. A post-graduate in Physics from Delhi University and in Financial Management from IGNOU, Shri Agarwal joined the J&K cadre of Indian Police Service in the year 1986. Earlier he also served in the Indian Forest Service (1984) and Indian Revenue Service (1985). He has been a recipient of Director’s Commendation for standing all-round best in the Foundation course at SVP National Police Academy, and also DGP J&K Commendation medal for his outstanding contribution. Shri Navin Agarwal has fought terror bravely as SSP of District Pulwama and SSP of District Rajouri besides as DIG of Doda/Udhampur Range. As Director Police Telecommunications J&K, he has to his credit establishment in 1998 of a monitoring network, decryption centre and special analysis unit to intercept and crack the parallel terror network and provide timely and vital inputs for anti-militancy operations. As IGP Homeguards, Civil Defence and Auxiliary Police J&K, Shri Agarwal has been able to significantly expand the scope and extent of civil defence in the state. A large number of public awareness activities were carried out, massive mobilization and training of new volunteers was undertaken, and civil defence measures introduced in 9 more towns of the state.


 

 

Passing out parade at CTI Jammu

A batch of Homeguards volunteers who underwent 21 days Leadership Course at Central Training Institute of Homeguards and Civil Defence Jammu, passed out successfully on 19th August 2006. On the occasion Sh. S.M. Khatotra SSP, Divisional Commandant Homeguards Jammu. He took salute and later on also distributed certificates and cash rewards among the Homeguards volunteers for their outstanding performance in various disciplines of training.


 

 

Civil Defence Rescue operations during Floods

During the intervening night of 24th/ 25th August 2006 Civil Defence and Central Training Institute parties were rushed towards River Tawi where 8 Labourers got trapped in flash floods. Civil Defence teams succeeded in rescuing the labourers. In this matter there are clear orders of Sh. Navin Agarwal, IPS, Inspector General Of Police, HG/CD & Aux. Police that Civil Defence rescue party and other such Civil Defence parties should remain ready during Monsoon. The Civilian rescued during this operation were Sh.Laximan, Sh.Vijay Pradhan, Sh.Dhruba R/O Orrisa State, Sh.Ashok Kumar, Sh.Tarseem Lal, Sh.Raj Kumar, Sh.Virender R/O Nagrota Jammu,


 

 

Disaster Management training to Police personnel

Six days training programme on Rescue operation and Disaster Management for police personnel of Kathua was held at DPL Kathua w.e.f 21st to 26th August 2006. Sh.J.P.Singh IPS, SSP Kathua expressed his happiness upon the skills acquired by Police personnel and said that this will help to minimize damage to life and property during disaster. He also stated that number of people die in road accidents due to non-availability of first aid and improper shifting of injured to the hospital, such trainings are the need of the hour. He was also thankful to Sh.Navin Agarwal IGP HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K for organizing the course in his district for Police personnel. Sh.S.M.Khatotra Div. Comdt. Homeguards Jammu also spoke on the occasion.

The training was organized by Sh.Mohd Majid Malik Dy.SP Principal Central Training Institute Jammu besides Sh.Nirmal Singh Area commander HG Kathua in assistance with chief warden Kathua Sh.Dhian Chand and his team. Prominent among those present were Sh.Anil Kumar 2IC CRPF, Sh.S.P.S.Sandhu Major 158 T.A Bn, Shiv Kumar Sharma, SP DAR Kathua, Sh.S.S.Jamwal Dy. Chief warden, all wardens of Kathua town & students of various schools of Kathua town.


 

 

Police Public Welfare Mela

J&K Police Public welfare mela was held at Srinagar on 27th August 2006 which was inaugurated by Sh.Gopal Sharma DGP J&K. Auxiliary Police also put up a stall in which articles prepared in the newly established Aux. welfare centre were also displayed. Sh.Gopal Sharma DGP along with other officers and police men also visited the stall besides large number of Public.


 

 

News in Brief

A one day awareness camp was organized by Civil Defence Samba on 19-8-06 at Nud. The camp was organized to create awareness among the school children and general public.

Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nisar Ali inspecting civil defence camp at Doda on the occasion of Independence day

A Day-long awareness camp on Civil Defence was organized by the Civil Defence Budgam, at Government Higher Secondary School for Boys, Budgam on 24th August 2006 in which about 500 students and a sizeable number of locals besides functionaries of Civil Defence Organization participated in the camp.

On the occasion of Independence Day celebration a civil defence awareness camp was organized by civil defence wardens/volunteers at sport stadium Doda. Hon’ble Minister for social welfare Sh.Nisar Ali visited the civil defence camp at venue, who also appreciated the work done by the Civil Defence wardens of Doda in the recent past.
