A VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF HOMEGUARD VOLUNTEERS ORGANISED AT CTI HOMEGUARDS/CIVIL DEFENCE JAMMU

A fresh batch of 49 Homeguard volunteers, who underwent six weeks Basic Civil Defence Training Course w.e.f. 11-06-08 to 22-07-08 at Central Training Institute of Homeguards and Civil Defence, Jammu passed out successfully on 21st July 2008. Sh.Prabhat Singh, SSP, Commandant, Aux.Police 2nd Bn. Cum-Divisional Commandant Homeguards Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Commandant, in his address stressed upon the importance of quality training and expressed happiness that during training, the VHG trainees exhibited great dedication, devotion and hardwork. He took salute and also distributed certificates among the following three Homeguard volunteers for their outstanding performance in various disciplines of training:

  1. G/M Ravi Kumar No.108/U (Ist Position)
  2. G/M Vikas Sharma No.85/K (2nd Position)
  3. G/M Sanjay Jasrotia No.03/K (3rd Position).

 

 

MEETING OF CIVIL DEFENCE WARDENS AT RCDCC JAMMU

On 14th July 2008, a meeting of Senior Civil Defence Wardens was held at Civil Defence Control Room, Jammu under the chairmanship of Sh.Ravi Gupta, Dy.Controller, Civil Defence, Jammu. The main aim of the meeting was to boost the morale of warden service. While addressing the meeting Sh.Ravi Gupta, Dy.Controller, Civil Defence conveyed his thanks to the wardens for their participation and hoped that all wardens will play a positive and selfless role in further development of Civil Defence organization especially in the Civil Defence Town, Jammu. As the Civil Defence Wardens and volunteers are first responders in any kind of calamity, so the role of CD warden service is very important and unavoidable. Besides other things, the Wardens were assured that Mobile Phone service will be introduced shortly for the warden service. The Sr. most wardens who attended the meeting were Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden Civil Defence, Sh.Jia Lal Sharma, Divisional Warden, Sh.Kanta Bhan, Divisional Warden, Sh.Shashi Kohli, Dy. Divisional Warden, Sh.Jagdish Kumar, Dy.Divisional Warden, Sh.Ajay Puri, Post Warden, Smt.Lalita Sharma, Post Warden, Sh.Naseer Ahmed Qureshi, Post Warden, Sh.Varinder Singh, Post Warden and Thakur Ranjeet Singh, Post Warden.


 

 

A VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF VHGs ORGANISED AT CTI HG/CD SRINAGAR

An impressive passing out parade of 8th batch of Homeguard volunteers of Kashmir Province who underwent Basic Civil Defence Training Course at Central Training Institute, Homeguards/ Civil Defence, Srinagar on 22nd July 2008. During training, 67 VHG were trained and passed out successfully. Sh.Amjad Parvez Mirza, SSP, Commandant Aux. Police 1st Bn, Srinagar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Others present on the occasion were Sh. Zahoor Ahmad, Principal, CTI HG/CD, Srinagar, Sh.G.M.Wadoo, Dy SP, Aux.Police 1st Bn, Srinagar,Inspector Muhammad Amin Bhat of Direction Office and other officers of Homeguards/Civil Defence & Aux. Police Srinagar.


 

 

MASSIVE AWARENESS PROGRAMME ORGANISED AT CD TOWN BUDGAM

One day’s Civil Defence massive awareness programme was organized in the premises of R & B Sub Division Budgam on 30th July 2008. The function was inaugurated by Sh.Amjad Parvez Mirza, SSP, Commandant, Aux. Police 1st Bn., Srinagar. The chief guest delivered lecture on the topic ‘violation of Human Rights’, concept of Civil Defence and its aims and objectives. The Executive Engineer R&B and his staff was also present on the occasion. A large number of local respectables and R&B employees were present on the occasion. The main aim of this awareness programme was to apprise of the general masses about the concept and role of Civil Defence in a civilized society. Smt.Nighat Aman, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller, Civil Defence, Budgam was the organizer of the said camp.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISED MEDICAL CUM AWARENESS CAMP AT SRINAGAR

On the occasion of ‘Mehraj-ul-Allam’ the Civil Defence Srinagar organized a free medical/ Awareness Camp at Hazartbal shrine w.e.f. 30-7-2008 to 01-08-2008. Besides the first aid, soft drinks, fruits and portable water was provided to the devotees. A large number of Civil Defence volunteers of Hazartbal area also participated actively in this awareness camp.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE LAUNCHED RESCUE OPERATION DURING FLASH FLOOD AT KATHUA

On 31st July 2008, after receiving a telephonic message regarding the drowning of Sgct.Balbir Singh of District Police Kathua in the flash flood at Bhag Nallah of Village Sotra Chack of Tehsil Hiranagar, Sh.Dhian Chand Chief Warden Civil Defence Kathua alongwith Civil Defence volunteers rushed immediately towards the spot of incident and launched rescue operation. While adopting Civil Defence skills and equipments, they were successful in rescuing Sgct.Balbir Singh, from the flood. Sh.S.S.Pani, SP, Kathua and Sh.Nirmal Singh, Dy.SP, Area Commander Homeguards, Kathua also supervised the whole operation.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE WARDENS PARTICIPATED IN INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE

Civil Defence wardens participated enthusiastically in the Independence Day Parade at Jammu. The Civil Defence Wardens contingent was led by Sh.Manjit Singh Sodhi, Post Warden. Personnel of Homeguards & Auxiliary Police all over the State also participated enthusiastically in the Independence Day Celebrations on 15th August 2008. In Jammu, the Auxiliary Police contingent was led by Sh.Mohd Aslam, Dy.SP. The drill and march past of Auxiliary Police was appreciated by audience.


 

 

A VALEDICTORY FUNCTION AT DISTRICT POLICE LINES DODA

Sh.Sayeed Sharief-ud-din, Dy. Commissioner, Doda distributed certificates among the CD volunteers during the celebration of Independence day- 2008

On 15th August 2008, during the celebration of Independence day a colorful programme was celebrated at District Police Lines Doda, Sh.Sayeed Sharief-ud-din, Dy.Commissioner, Doda was the chief Guest on the occasion. During the function, Chief Guest distributed the certificates and honorarium among those Civil Defence volunteers, who had recently undergone 05 days CD basic Training course. A Civil Defence stall was installed at the venue of the function for the awareness among general masses. Sh. Sunil Raj, Dy.SP DAR –cum- Dy.Controller, Civil Defence, Doda briefed the Chief Guest about CD equipments and also introduced with the Civil Defence wardens. Sh.Raghubir Singh, SSP, Doda, Commandant, 10RR various heads of essential services and other prominent citizens of Doda witnessed the function. A large number of Civil Defence Wardens and volunteers were also present on the occasion.


 

 

NEWS IN BRIEF :

  • On 01-07-08, Civil Defence Rescue team of Jammu was rushed Rehari chowk for rescue operations/providing of first aid where some Police personnel got injured during stone pelting by the unruly mob.
  • On 02-07-08, Civil Defence Rescue team of Jammu was rushed to Airport Jammu for carrying victims of a road accident at Kishtwar to GMC Hospital, Jammu for immediate medical treatment.
  • On 06-07-08, a seriously injured person was shifted by the rescue team of Civil Defence from GMC Hospital, Jammu to PGI, Chandigarh.
  • On 11-07-08, as requested by the SDPO Akhnoor and ordered by the Commandant Aux. Police 2nd Bn Jammu, a Civil Defence Siren for issuing warning of flood was installed at Pargwal Akhnoor and also provided the services of a siren operator.
  • On 15-07-08, a seriously injured person was shifted from GMC Hospital, Jammu to Ludhiana for advanced medical treatment.
  • On 23-7-08, a seriously injured person was shifted from Jammu to Amritsar for advanced medical treatment.
  • On 23-07-08, an awareness Civil Defence meeting was organized with the collaboration of United Nations Development Projects under the supervision of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu through Dr.Ranbushan at RCDCC in which a video film regarding first aid and rescue was exhibited before the Civil Defence Wardens.
  • On 25-7-08, a Civil Defence rescue team was rushed to the interior Jammu city for providing first aid to injured Police personnel who were injured during stone pelting by an unruly mob.
  • On 29-07-08, a Civil Defence rescue party was rushed Paloura for rescue operation in the Ranbir canal where some cattle were trapped in the water of canal and were unable to come out at their own, from the canal water. Finally, after using CD skilled rescue methods the team was successful in rescuing all the trapped cattle from the canal waters.

During the month of August, 2008, Civil Defence Jammu remained engaged & extra ordinary alert in connection with Sh. Amar Nath Ji Sangarsh Samiti’s agitation and Independence Day 2008 celebrations, besides, the following CD activities were also performed:-

  • On 11-8-2008, a serious patient was shifted from his house to Army Hospital for emergency treatment.
  • On 12-8-2008 & 13-8-2008, Kishtwar riots injured victims were shifted from Air Port Jammu to GMC Hospital Jammu for emergency treatment by the Civil Defence rescue party in the CD Ambulances.
  • On 25-8-2008, a serious patient was shifted from Sainik Colony to GMC Hospital, Jammu for emergency treatment.
  • On 27-8-2008, Civil Defence Ambulances along with CD rescue parties were kept standby at Chinore, Jammu where encounter with the militants was going on from dawn to midnight.
  • 25days Civil Defence Refresher Training course was held at Central Training Institute HG/CD Jammu w.e.f. 28-7-08 to 21-8-08 in which 27 VHGs from various districts were imparted training and passed out successfully.
  • During Sh.Amar Nath Ji Yatra, Civil Defence Jammu organized an awareness camp at Govt. High School Ramsoo, Ramban on 2nd August, 2008. About 500 people participated in the camp and were acquainted with the Civil Defence aims and objectives. Sh.Mohd Aslam, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller, Civil Defence, Kathua supervised the camp and delivered lecture.
