CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISED A ‘WALK–CUM-RUN” COMPETITION FOR AWARENESS AMONG GENERAL MASSES

The ‘Walk-cum-Run’ awareness-cum-competition was organised by J&K Civil Defence/ Homeguards & Auxiliary Police organization on 15-02-2009. Sh.Kuldeep Khoda, IPS Director General of Police was the chief guest on the occasion. The Chief Guest flagged off “Walk-Cum-Run”. It was a huge success in which thousands of men, women and children participated. Besides, senior police officers, Civil Defence Wardens, volunteers, students from various educational institutions from Jammu region also participated in over 03 Kilometers Run, which started from Aux. Police 2nd Bn. HQ Gandhi Nagar at 7:15 a.m and concluded at Bagh-e-Bahu, near Har-ki-Pouri at 8:15 a.m. followed by Mock Exercises on various kinds of Rescue Operations. A large number of Police personnel including officers also participated which inspired a number of wayside onlookers to join it. The DGP J&K exhorted youth to train themselves in Civil Defence activities as well as inspire others. He said that in the present scenario there is a dire need to make Civil Defence as a part of our daily life to secure ourselves, fellow citizens and public property. He said that Civil Defence is vital since it keeps morale of public high even in difficult situations.

Sh.Dilbag Singh, IPS, IGP HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K highlighted the need for such Awareness and Training Camps and Mock Exercises. FM Radio, TV Channels and the Newspapers were used extensively during this programme and a website of Civil Defence J&K (www.jkcivildefence.org) is also available for this purpose, he said.

He said that Civil Defence contingents are taking part in several national and state level events. The nature of duties of the civil defence is different from that of the police but always complimentary to it. It can bridge the gap between the police and public. He said Civil Defence wardens, volunteers, officials and others associated with the organization always remain in the forefront during crisis situation. He further said that presently more than 30,000 Civil Defence trained volunteers are working across the State at various district headquarters as well as major towns.

Sh.Kuldeep Khoda, IPS, Director General of Police J&K distributed prizes among the winners of first three positions in the run in the Children, Women and senior Men categories. Refreshment was also served to the participants on the occasion.


 

A TRAINING-CUM-AWARENESS CAMP ORGANIZED BY CIVIL DEFENCE JAMMU

On 17th January 2009, a Training-Cum-Awareness Camp was organized at Middle school Sure-chak (Niki Tawi) Jammu by Civil Defence Jammu in which students / teachers of half dozen schools of Satwari Zone participated. On the occasion Sh.Dilbag Singh, IPS, IGP HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K, Sh.Khalil-ul-Rehman, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu, Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden, Sh.Vinod Malhotra, Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.Paramjit Kumar, Dy.Chief Warden, S.Rajinder Singh, ZEPO Satwari and Sh.D.N.Ganjoo, Retd. Asstt. Director Fire Services were also present.

During the camp, training cum awareness / demo were given by the training staff of CTI HG/CD Jammu on Casualty Evacuation, Fire Safety/ Fire Fighting and Flood Rescue. Awareness lectures were delivered by Sh.Vinod Malhotra and Sh.Paramjit Kumar Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.D.N.Ganjoo and S.Rajinder Singh, ZEPO where in the students / participants were told about the activities carried out by the Civil Defence on the occasion and the importance of Learning and Teaching safety and Rescue Measures in case of various types of disasters.

Students and participants together took keen interest in this learning exercise and also interacted with the officials and staff on relevant issues.

The steps taken for safety measure by Head Master Sh.Paramjit Kumar (also Dy.Chief Warden), Sh.Kalil-Ul-Rehman, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu, Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden were appreciated by IGP HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K Jammu and the other participants. Similar exercises are being organized after short intervals at other places.


 

CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANIZED CD AWARENESS CUM FREE MEDICAL AID CAMP AT SRINAGAR

Civil Defence volunteers providing service to the patients during free Medical camp at Srinagar

Civil Defence Awareness cum Free Medical Camp was organized by Civil Defence town Srinagar in collaboration with NGO Rahi Nationalist Society of Human Resource Development at Nowpora Gund Hassi Bhat Lawapora on 15th January 2009. The camp was inaugurated by Sh.Mehraj-ud-din Kakroo, District Development Commissioner-cum-Controller Civil Defence, Srinagar. He appreciated the work of Civil Defence as well as NGO and asked the people to join Civil Defence. He intimated that Srinagar city falls in earthquake zone area and due to un-planned development of housing colonies in Srinagar city, increased the vulnerability of various disasters especially earthquake and people should be on high alert and ready to cope with any situation.

During the camp, awareness about various kinds of disasters was given by Sh.Rahi Reyaz, Dy. Divisional Warden Civil Defence who underwent Disaster Management Course at NCDC Nagpur previously. He also told the participants that the Srinagar was in seismic zone 5 and there was every apprehension of the earthquake at any time and people should be aware of these types of disasters. He also disclosed that the damage during disasters can not be avoided but can be
minimised to some extent by adopting the precautionary methods.

Doctors namely Dr.Pervaz Jan, Dr.Abbar Ahmad Wani, Dr.Mushtaq Ahmad Aga, Dr.Rukshana Jabeen and Medical Asstt.Nazir Ahmad treated a large number of patients and gave them first aid/ seasonal ailment medicines free of cost on the spot. About 300 to 400 people attended the camp and were given free consultation and medicines which were provided by the Indian Medical System Agencies, Srinagar.

At the end, Sh.Gh.Ahmed Bhat, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Srinagar thanked Sh.Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo, KAS, Controller Civil Defence cum Dy.Commissioner Srinagar, NGO and local residents for attending the said camp.


 

A MASSIVE AWARENESS PROGRAMME ORGANIZED BY CIVIL DEFENCE TOWN BUDGAM

One day Civil Defence Massive Awareness Programme was organized at Civil Defence Complex Budgam by the Civil Defence town Budgam on 03-01-2009. The function was inaugurated by Smt.Nighat Aman, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Budgam. On this occasion she delivered a lecture on Earthquake, Concept of Civil Defence and its aims and objectives. The Civil Defence wardens/volunteers present on the occasion were also briefed regarding the threats of natural calamities.

 

 


 

CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANIZED ONE DAY AWARENESS CAMP AT SAMBA

One Day Awareness Camp was organized by Civil Defence Samba at Adarash Vidya Peth High School Samba on 15-01-2009. The camp was attended by more than 300 school children and staff of the school. Besides, some local residents of peripheral areas also attended the camp. The main objective of the awareness camp was to make the people aware about the aims and objectives of Civil Defence. The main thrust was laid upon the basic techniques of first aid, fire fighting and other rescue related aspects. The camp was organized as a part of the ongoing Civil Defence campaign which has been launched by Civil Defence Samba to make people aware about the preventive measures to be adopted during Natural Disaster like earthquake. The camp was organized with the active collaboration and contribution of entire warden services of Civil Defence Samba.


 

CIVIL DEFENCE OFFICERS/WARDENS PARTICIPATED IN CBRN DISASTERS COURSE AT NEW DELHI

A senior level course on ‘Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Disasters’ was held at National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi w.e.f. 19th to 23rd January 2009. Sh.Khalil-ur-Rehman, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu, Sh.Gh. Ahmed Bhat, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Srinagar and Dr.Ranbushan Singh, MD PGDDM, Project Coordinator-UEIRP-UNDP of the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu participated in the course.

 


 

CIVIL DEFENCE LAID A STALL OF CD EQUIPMENTS AT DPL DODA

In order to highlight the Civil Defence activities/ awareness among the general masses Civil Defence town Doda laid a stall of Civil Defence equipments at DPL Doda during Republic day on 26-01-2009. The Stall was inspected by the Chief Guest of Republic Day Sh.Syed Shaief-Ud-Din, KAS, Dy.Commissioner cum Controller Civil Defence Doda alongwith Sh.Prabhat Singh, SSP Doda and other district officers. During the function one Post Warden namely Sh.Mohd Amin Magray and 6 CD volunteers Sh.Akhtar Hussain, Sh.Nasir Ahmed, Sh.Ishaq Ahmed, Sh.Tariq Hussain, Sh.Ayaz Ahmed, Sh.Shakil Ahmed were awarded Commendation Certificate by Sh.Syed Shaief-Ud-Din, KAS, Dy.Commissioner cum Controller Civil Defence Doda for their volunteer services to the general masses during the year 2008.

On the occasion of Republic Day Civil Defence Wardens/ Volunteers were deployed in the town with Police at various Nakkas for checking and frisking.


 

A VALEDICTORY FUNCTION WAS ORGANISED AT CTI HG/CD JAMMU

A valedictory function of 56 VHGs of 30 days Advance Training Course of Jammu Province was organised at CTI HG/CD Jammu on 22-01-2009. Sh.Deepak Slathia, SP, Commandant Aux. Police 2nd Bn. Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He distributed certificates among the VHGs with cash reward. The function was also attended by, Sh.P.D.Sharma, Dy.SP, I/C Principal CTI HG/CD Jammu.

 

 

 


 

A FIVE DAYS CIVIL DEFENCE TRAINING CAMP ORGANIZED AT SAMBA

A five days Civil Defence training camp was organised by Civil Defence town Samba w.e.f. 27-01-2009 to 31-01-2009 at Govt. Primary School Rakh-Amtoli, Samba. During the training camp Civil Defence volunteers were acquainted about various types of Disaster management related techniques besides first aid, fire-fighting and aims of Civil Defence etc.

Expert instructors were called from Central Training Institute HG/CD Jammu to impart effective training. On this occasion, Sh.Parveen Singh, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Samba highlighted the importance of Basic training for new Civil Defence volunteers. He also appealed that more and more people should come forward and join Civil Defence as volunteers to provide help to the needy people during any disaster. During the training period about 67 volunteers participated and passed out successfully. They were awarded with Civil Defence training certificates alongwith training allowance as admissible.


 

TEN DAYS CIVIL DEFENCE TRAINING CAMP ORGANISED AT KATHUA

Ten days Civil Defence training camp was organised by Civil Defence town Kathua w.e.f. 28-01-2009 to 06-02-2009 at Govt. Hr. Sec. School Kathua. About 63 volunteers participated and passed out successfully. They were awarded with Civil Defence training certificate and training allowance. Sh.Parveen Singh, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Kathua who was the chief guest highlighted the importance of Basic training for new Civil Defence volunteers.

During the training camp Civil Defence volunteers were acquainted about various types of Disaster management related techniques besides first aid, fire-fighting and aims of Civil Defence etc. On the concluding day, the function was attended by Sh.Dhian Chand, Chief Warden, Sh.Surjit Singh, Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.Kapil Dev, Divisional Warden, Sh.Sandip Singh, Post Warden, Sh.Raghubir Singh, Sector Warden besides Sh.Monohar Singh, Principal and other staff members of the school also participated.


 

CIVIL DEFENCE VOLUNTEERS SAVED PRECIOUS LIVES

In the intervening night of 5th – 6th /02/2009, a cloud burst on the banks of river Chinab at Pul Doda. A number of houses and shops were damaged due to increase of water level in Chenab river which grew in shape and size. A Civil Defence team under the supervision of Post Warden swung into action at midnight and started rescue operation and with the help of trained Civil Defence volunteers saved many precious lives, and other commodities including necessary documents of J & K Bank from the river Chinab.


 

NEWS IN BRIEF:

  • Three days Civil Defence Medical camp was organised at Bagran Uri w.e.f 08-02-2009 with the help of People Welfare Organization (NGO).
  • In order to boost the Civil Defence activities and to provide assistance to local police in this CD town, two separate Civil Defence meetings were held on 09-02-2009.
    • A Civil Defence meeting was held at Bakshi Nagar Police Station under the Chairmanship of Sh.Randheep Singh, Supdt. of Police, North Jammu City in which Sh.Shiv Kumar Chouhan, SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Sh.Khalil-Ur-Rehman,Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu, Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden besides a large number of Civil Defence Wardens/ volunteers particularly from Civil Defence division Nos. 2 and 3 were present. The main aim of the meeting was to provide helping hand and due contribution of Civil Defence Warden Service to the local Police authorities in dealing with drug addiction menace, thefts, frequent city traffic Jams, wrong parking, frisking at Nakas. The Police authorities were assured that full co-operation from the warden service will be provided.
    • Another Civil Defence meeting was held at Baby Caterers Rehari, Sarwal at 6:00 P.M. under the chairmanship of Supdt.of Police, North Jammu. The main aim of this meeting was to boost the morale of Civil Defence warden service as well as to get their valuable assistance in dealing with common social crimes properly.
  • A Civil Defence awareness camp was organised in the premises of E.T.T Rainbow College Kathua on 14-02-2009 in which Sh.Vinay Kumar, Dy.SP DAR DPL Kathua presided over the function. He delivered lecture in which he suggested that a minor mistake can cause a huge damage to life and property of people. He inspired people to join Civil Defence to save the nation. Sh.V.K.Bhat, Divisional Fire officer Kathua was also present on the occasion.
  • A Matador met with an accident plying from Nowshera to Poonch near village Dadallain on 18-02-2009. As soon as information reached at CD Town Nowshera, Civil Defence volunteers under the supervision of Sh.R.P.Damral, Dy. Divisional Warden rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation. The injured persons were shifted to Distt. Hospital Nowshera.
  • Civil Defence organised one day awareness camp at Govt. Middle School Boys Sunderbani on 20-02-2009. During the camp, Smt.Bimla Pathania, Dy.Divisional Warden acquainted the participants with the aims & objectives of Civil Defence.
  • One day awareness camp was organised by Civil Defence Samba on 26-02-2009 at Budhwani Samba. About 200 local residents of Budhwani and peripheral areas participated in the camp. The main objective of the awareness camp was to make the people aware about the aims and objectives of Civil Defence.
  • Sh.Behari Lal Sharma, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Udhampur acquaints the participants with the aims & objectives of Civil Defence during an awareness camp at Udhampur
    A Civil Defence awareness camp was organised at Govt. Middle School Barrian Udhampur on 24-02-2009. Besides the school children Civil Defence wardens of Udhampur town also participated. Lectures were delivered by Sh.Behari Lal, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Udhampur, Sh.Ved Parkash Kahyap, Divisional Warden and Sh.Behari Lal sharma, Sector warden regarding the aims & objectives of Civil Defence. Demonstration on rescue operations were also given by the experts from CTI HG/CD Jammu.
