DIG HG/CD & AUX.POLICE JAMMU REVIEW THE ACTIVITIES OF CAT-I CIVIL DEFENCE TOWN DODA

Sh.P.R.Manhas, IPS, Dy.Inspector General of Police, HG/CD & Aux.Police Jammu visited Cat-I Civil Defence Town Doda on 2nd May, 2009. A meeting of Officers, Civil Defence Wardens and prominent citizens was convened in DPL Doda to review the activities of Civil Defence in Doda district.

At the outset of the meeting Sh.Sunil Raj,Dy.SP DAR cum Dy.Controller Civil Defence Doda highlighted the activities of civil defence carried out in CD Town Doda during last two years, especially duty performed by Civil Defence Wardens/ Volunteers in rescue of dead and injured persons in various road accidents in the district besides the role of CD Volunteers (swimmers/ divers) who saved many lives in river Chinab. He also apprised the participants that a huge lake formed from Baglihar to Pul Doda with the Commissioning of Baglihar Hydro-electric Power project has arisen the need for a full fledged ‘Water Rescue Team’ at Pull Doda. Dy.Controller Civil Defence Doda also put forth the demands of CD town Doda.

The DIG HG/CD & Aux.Police Jammu assured the Dy.Controller CD Doda that the demands shall be forwarded to the Directorate and efforts will be made to fulfill the shortage in equipments and other infrastructure in Civil Defence town Doda. The Civil Defence Staff and Wardens/Volunteers were asked to further strengthen the Civil Defence activities, awareness programmes and give demonstrations in Colleges, Schools in the town and invite general public to join hands with the civil defence organization to make this Organization useful for betterment of the society.

The meeting was attended by Sh.Parbhat Singh, SSP Distt. Doda, Sh.Sunil Raj, Dy.SP, DAR cum Dy.Controller Civil Defence Doda, Sh.Zafferullah Rather, Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.Basant Singh, Divisional Warden, Smt.Rafiqa Begum, Dy. Divisional Warden, Sh. Said Ullah Rangrez, Post Warden, Sh.Ajaz Karim Bhat, Post Warden, Sh.Mohd Amin Magrey, Post Warden, Sh.Mohd Hanief Shah, Post Warden, Smt.Sonia Thakur, Post Warden besides, Sector Wardens and Prominent citizens of the town.

On this occasion, Civil Defence volunteers, who are expert divers/ swimmers alongwith other Civil divers/ swimmers of the town gave a Flood Rescue demonstration in the lake in river Chenab at Pul Doda which was appreciated all officers of district Police and general public witnessing the rescue operation.


 

 

ONE DAY CIVIL DEFENCE AWARENESS CAMP ORGANISED AT SAMBA

Civil Defence Town Samba organised one day awareness camp at Govt. Middle School Phangdour on 16-05-2009. This camp was organised as a part of the awareness campaign launched by Civil Defence Samba for making public especially the school going children aware about the aims and objectives of Civil Defence. The student and the staff of the school actively participated and also appreciated the efforts of the Civil Defence Samba. During the camp about 200 school children participated and were imparted basic knowledge about first aid, fire-fighting and rescue operation. Sh.Parveen Singh, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Samba, Sh.Dharmvir Singh, Chief Warden, Sh.Sanjay Gupta, Dy.Chief Warden besides post wardens and sector wardens were also present during the camp.


 

 

WATER RESCUE QRT LAUNCHED AT DAL LAKE - CIVIL DEFENCE RESCUE TEAM SAVED HUMAN LIVES AT SRINAGAR

A strong wind swept Srinagar on 01-06-2009 and damaged several Shikaras and House Boats in Dal Lake. As soon as information was received, Water Rescue (QRT) of Civil Defence/ Aux.Police swing into action and conducted joint rescue operation in Dal Lake with Fire and Emergency teams. Nearly 30 tourists had fallen into the lake after Boats over-turned due to high velocity wind. However a family of four members of Udhampur fell into the Lake in which Mr.M.C.Dubey, Dy.Chief Conservator died and his others family members were saved.

Among others, Sh.G.A.Bhat, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Srinagar, Sh. Aamir Ali, I/C DDMC and Sh.Mauzam Bakshi, Dy.Chief Warden were also present during the rescue operation.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISED AN AWARENESS CAMP AT NAGROTA

Civil Defence Jammu organised one day Civil Defence awareness camp under the command of Sh.Khalil-Ur-Rehman, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu at NCC camp Nagrota on 01-06-2009. A large number of Executive staff of NCC and 500 NCC cadets attended the CD Camp. The role and scope of Civil Defence organization especially its role as first responders in Disaster Management in J&K was addressed during the awareness camp. Sh.J.S.Slathia, Lt.Col, Dr.Ranbushan Singh, Chief Coordinator UNDP, Sh.Shashi Kohli, Dy.Divisional Warden, Sh.Alok Nanda, Dy.Divisional Warden were also present on the occasion.


 

 

 

ONE DAY’S TRAINING PROGRAMME ON SEARCH, RESCUE & FIRST AID ORGANISED AT RCDCC JAMMU

One day’s training programme on Search, Rescue and First Aid in disasters was held at Regional Civil Defence Control Centre Jammu on 08-06-2009 which was sponsored by Urban Earthquake Vulnerability Reduction Project, a Sub-Component of United Nations Development programmes. The main aim of this training programme was to educate general masses, including lady teaching staff from different school as well as lady CD wardens, regarding how to respond before, during and after any disaster.

Dr.Mandeep K. Bhandari, IAS, Dy.Commissioner -cum-Controller Civil Defence Jammu inaugurated the training programme. Speaking on the occasion Sh.M.K.Bhandari, IAS said that imparting of Civil Defence as well as Disaster Management training to the civilians especially women folk is essential in modern scenario. The large audience of trainees were educated through video films by Dr.Ranbushan, Chief Co-ordinator, United Nations Development Programmes Jammu. Among others Sh.Khalil-Ur-Rehman, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu, Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden, Sh.Vinod Malhotra, Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.Paramjit Kumar, Dy.Chief Warden, Retd Major Harnam Singh, Dy.Chief Warden were also present on the occasion.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE TOWN SAMBA ORGANISED FIVE DAYS CD BASIC TRAINING CAMP AT SAMBA

A five days Civil Defence training camp was organised by Civil Defence Town Samba at Thalora Mandi w.e.f. 16-06-2009 to 20-06-2009. During the camp participants were imparted training in various Disaster Management techniques besides first aid, fire-fighting, land slide and rescue operations. Civil Defence experts were also called from CTI HG/CD Jammu to impart effective training. On this occasion, a function was organised in which Sh.Parveen Singh, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Samba highlighted the aims and objectives of Civil Defence. He explained the importance of holding Civil Defence training camps and role of Civil Defence volunteers. He also disclosed that similar such camps will be held in future also. Sh.Raj Singh, Post warden, also spoke on the occasion. During the camp, 70 Civil Defence volunteers were imparted training.

The function was attended by Sh.Dharmvir Singh, Chief Warden, Sh.Sanjay Gupta, Dy.Chief Warden, Sh.Narsingh Dayal, Post Warden, Sh.Raman Singh, Sector Warden and Sh.Rajnish Pargal, Sector Warden. Besides others prominent citizens of peripheral areas were also present on the occasion.


 

 

NEWS IN BRIEF:

  • One day Civil Defence awareness camp was held at G.D.Goenka Public School Gajansoo Road Jammu on 02-05-2009 in which 45 students participated. The participants were acquainted about aims and objectives of Civil Defence.
  • A serious patient who was injured at Kishtwar was shifted in Civil Defence Ambulance from Air Port Jammu to GMC Jammu for immediate treatment on 04-05-2009. Again on 06-05-2009, a serious patient of Doda was shifted from Air Port Jammu to GMC Jammu for medical treatment.
  • On 14-05-2009 a patient who was not able even to walk himself was shifted from GMC Jammu to Talab Tillo (his Residence). Also on 15-05-2009, a road accidental victim was shifted from Gandhi Nagar to Medical College Jammu.
  • One day Civil Defence awareness camp was organised at Govt. Girls Higher Sec. School Rehari on 18-05-2009 in which 204 students participated and acquainted with Civil Defence skills. Sh.Alok Nanda, Dy.Divisional Warden, Smt. Kanta Bhan, Divisional Warden, Sh.Vijay Sharma, Post Warden were also present on the occasion.
  • One day awareness programme on Disaster Management and First aid was held at Govt. Girls Higher Sec. School Bakshi Nagar on 20-05-09. During the camp, about 100 students participated. The aim of programme was to make aware the teaching staff as well as students with regard to preventive measures for unexpected eventualities such as earthquake, devastating fires etc. Sh.Alok Nanda, Dy.Divisional Warden, Sh.Vinod Sharma, Dy.Post Warden, Sh.Vijay Singh Pathania, Sector Warden were also present on the occasion.
  • A view of Civil Defence awareness camp held at Sewa Bharti Amphalla Jammu on 23-05-2009
    One day Civil Defence awareness camp was held at Sewa Bharti Amphalla Jammu on 23-05-2009 in which 135 students participated. The participants were acquainted with aims and objectives of Civil Defence.
  • Civil Defence water rescue team was rushed towards Banks of River Tawi Jammu on 24-05-2009 where a young boy had reportedly drowned at Mandir Masjid Point. After utilizing Civil Defence skills, CD water rescue team was able to fish out the body of the drowned young boy. The body of young boy was later identified as Kewal Krishen S/O Sh.Subash Chander R/O Kishtwar, aged 22 years pursuing ITI Engineering.
  • A view of Civil Defence training camp at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra
    Civil Defence imparted training in Disaster Management to the employees of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Katra at Gurukul Charanpaduka Katra w.e.f. 25-05-2009 to 29-05-2009. During the training, 31 employees of Shrine Board were acquainted with various Civil Defence skills and activities.
  • Civil Defence town Akhnoor organised five days Civil Defence training camp at Akhnoor w.e.f. 25-05-2009 to 29-05-2009. During the camp, 55 CD volunteers were imparted CD training and made aware of fire-fighting, first aid etc. during disaster.
  • One day Civil Defence Awareness Camp was organised at Govt. High School Awantipora on 26-05-2009. During the camp, about 500 school children of various schools attended the function besides teaching staff, respectable citizens, heads of various agencies/ bodies attended the function. On this occasion, Sh.Devinder Singh, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Awantipora welcomed the guests. While addressing he explained the aims and objectives of Civil Defence with brief resume of Civil Defence establishment in Anwantipora Town. He offered the general masses to come and join the Civil Defence. Sh.Abdul Qayoom Sheikh, Principal of Syed Mantaqui Hr.Secondary School, also addressed the participants. He said that Civil Defence is essential for all as this is the only source to provide defence to tackle with the threat of disaster whether it is natural or man-made. He appreciated the role played by Civil Defence in providing CD services. Sh.Sharief Ahmed Shah, Headmaster Govt. High School Awantipora, also thanked Civil Defence Awantipora for organizing the said awareness camp.
  • Civil Defence / Homeguards & Aux.Police has established Civil Defence camps one at base camp Nunwan Pahalgam and 04 others on Baltal Holy Cave route for the assistance of the pilgrims w.e.f. 13-06-2009. The Civil Defence camp has facilities of first aid, rescue, hot water, ambulance lift, bed rest etc.
  • Civil Defence experts while providing CD Basic training to volunteers at Taleem Ghar Higher Secondary School Rajouri
    Five days Basic Civil Defence training camp was organised at Taleem Ghar Hr.Secondary School Rajouri w.e.f. 10-06-09 to 14-06-09. The training was imparted by Civil Defence experts deputed from Central Training Institute of HG/CD Jammu. During the camp, 63 students have been imparted training in various Civil Defence skills i.e. Fire- Fighting, First Aid and Rescue operation. Similar, five days camp was also organised at Homeguards Line Rajouri w.e.f. 10-6-09 to 14-06-09. During which 30 youths of Cat 1st CD Town Rajouri were acquainted with Civil Defence skills.
  • On the occasion of Nirjal Ekadshi, a sweat water stall was installed by Aux. Police 2nd Bn. Jammu outside the main gate for general public.
  • One day training programme on search, rescue and first aid in Urban Disasters was held at RCDCC Jammu on 22-06-09. The main aim of the training programme was to educate general public, in tackling disaster.

    Sh.D.K.Nanda, Rtd. Col. was the chief guest on the occasion. He made the audience aware about the psychological warfare with regard to Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Disasters. Sh.Deepak Slathia, SP, Commandant Aux.Police 2nd Bn Jammu presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, he said that imparting of Civil Defence as well as Disaster Management training to the civilians especially to a layman is essential in modern scenario. A large number of Sr.Wardens including, Sh.Jugal Mahajan, Chief Warden and other respectables attended the training programme. The programme was organised under the supervision of Sh.Khalil-Ur-Rehman,Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Jammu.
  • A contingent of Civil Defence volunteers of Srinagar town participated in a plantation drive organised by Landscape development, University of Kashmir (NSS wing) on 31-03-2009 and 01-04-2009.

    On the occasion of Baba Chamlyal Mela an exhibition cum awareness camp was organised by Civil Defence Samba at Chamlyal (Ramgarh) on 25-06-2009. During the camp Civil Defence life saving jackets, rescue equipments, Fire fighting, first aid etc were also kept available and displayed for any eventuality as well as for Civil Defence awareness among the general public. The Civil Defence Ambulance was also kept available for any eventuality during the mela. Sh.Sourav Bhagat, IAS, Dy.Commissioner cum Controller Civil Defence Samba was chief guest on the occasion, besides Sh.Madan Lal Hon`ble MP J&K, Sh.K.Rajendera, IPS, IGP Jammu Zone Jammu also inspected the camp and appreciated the role of Civil Defence. The camp was organised under the supervision of Sh.Parveen Singh, Dy.SP, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Samba.
