INTERZONE SPORTS MEET OF HOMEGUARDS AND CIVIL DEFENCE J&K 2009

In connection with Annual Raising Day Celebrations of Homeguards and Civil Defence, Interzone Sports Meet of HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K was organised w.e.f. 02-12-2009 to 04-12-2009 at J&K Police Stadium Gulshan Ground Jammu. Sh.S.Gopal Reddy, IPS Inspector General of Police, HG/CD & Aux. Police J&K was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. In his inaugural address the chief guest Sh.S.Gopal Reddy, IPS told the participants to respect the rules of games in every event in true spirit of Sportsmanship. An oath ceremony of players was also held in which the player resolved to abide by the rules of the games. March past of various teams was also held. On the occasion of closing ceremony Shri Verghese Samuel, IAS, Financial Commissioner, Home Deptt. J&K was the chief guest while Shri Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police & Commandant General, Homeguards/Director Civil Defence J&K was the guest of honour. All senior police/ civil officers including some senior retired police officers were present on the occasion. In this Sports Meet, players of six units i.e Auxiliary Police Ist Bn. Srinagar (2) Auxiliary Police 2nd Bn. Jammu (3) Homeguards Kashmir Zone (4) Homeguards Jammu Zone (5) Civil Defence Kashmir Zone and Civil Defence Jammu Zone totaling 242 players, (117 from Kashmir Zone and 125 from Jammu Zone) participated in different games like football, volley ball, kabaddi, tug of war, athletics etc.

The winner team of the Football match was Civil Defence Kashmir Zone and runner up was Civil Defence Jammu Zone. In Kabaddi Aux. Police 2nd Bn. Jammu was the winner and Aux. Police 1st Bn. Kashmir was the runner-up. Aux. Police 2nd Bn. Jammu was also winner of the Volleyball and Homeguards Kashmir Zone was the runner up. Final of Tug-of-War Match was played on the closing ceremony in which Aux. Police 2nd Bn. Jammu became the Winner and Homeguards Jammu Zone was the runner-up. In the similar way different individual events were also held like Races, Shortput, Discus Throw, Javelin throw and the winner teams were given trophies by the Chief Guest Shri Verghese Samuel, Financial Commissioner, Home Deptt. J&K. The other players who stood first, 2nd & 3rd in athletics were given individual medals and certificates by chairman of the meet Shri S.Gopal Reddy, IGP HG/CD/Aux.Police J&K.

Welcoming the chief guest Shri Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police, J&K said that sports events are held in the department to promote sports skill and the players who show outstanding performances are being given proper recognition. Such events also provide a chance for the players to interact with each other and learn the sportsmanship. Moreover, the role of Homeguards/ Civil defence vols. was volunteers was lauded and it was appreciated that they render help to the community in times of need whether during disasters or religious festivals or pilgrimage.

The chief guest in his address said that on one hand the volunteers have been found taking part in games with great enthusiasm and on the other hand being trained in drill, discipline and civil defence techniques to help the police being auxiliary to it in the maintenance of law and order/ traffic regulations and the community in times of disasters whether natural or man made. Thereafter, the chief guest declared the sports meet closed.

At the end, Shri P.R.Manhas, DIG HG/CD (Organizing Secretary) presented vote of thanks to the chief guest, the guest of honour, all senior police/ civil officers, retired senior police officers, members of organizing committee and others making arrangements for ensuring the event successful.


 

 

RAISING DAY CELEBRATION OF HOMEGUARDS & CIVIL DEFENCE J&K

On 6th December 2009 Homeguard/Civil Defence organization observed its raising day alongwith other States of India at Auxiliary Police 2nd Bn. Gandhi Nagar Jammu. An impressive parade by the contingents of Auxiliary police, Homeguard and Civil defence was held. Shri Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police cum Commandant General Homeguard cum Director Civil Defence took the salute on the occasion. Thereafter, Shri S.Gopal Reddy, Inspector General of Police, HG/CD/Aux.Police read out the raising day messages of Her Excellency the President of India, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, the Hon’ble Home Minister of India, H.E. the Governor of J&K and others. The members of Civil Defence Jammu who had been awarded President’s Homeguard/ Civil Defence Meritorious Service Medal were also honoured with the medals by the chief guest Sh.Kuldeep Khoda, DGP J&K. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that 6th December reminds us of the Chinese aggression of 1962, which lead to the raising of Homeguard / Civil defence in our country.

This voluntary force was created to deal with the internal security and security of vital installations of the country. Now with the emerging trends which are surfacing day by day due to climatic change, melting of glaciers, storms, earthquakes, new challenges have emerged are before us which have to be taken note of so that losses on this count like drought, human and property are minimized. Our State being a multi disaster prone State falling in seismic zone- 5 requires more and more attention from the volunteers being first responders. It is because in this background, we have created two coys within Auxiliary Police as State Disaster Response Force which are being fully trained and equipped.

At the end, Shri P.R.Manhas, DIG, HG/CD/Aux. Police Jammu presented vote of thanks on behalf of the organization and thanked the chief guest, the senior police/civil officers, the retired police officers and the organizing committee for making the program me a successful event.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISED AWARENESS CAMP AT FAR FLUNG AREA OF MANDI BLOCK, POONCH

Civil Defence organised one day awareness camp at High School Fethapur, a far flung area of Mandi Block, Poonch on 21-11-2009. During the camp, staff and students of the school were briefed about the role and importance of Civil Defence training during disaster. The camp was presided over by Incharge Dy.Controller CD Poonch.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE EXPERTS IMPARTED TRAINING-CUM-AWARENESS TO THE NSS CADETS AT SPMR COLLEGE OF COMMERCE JAMMU W.E.F. 23-11-2009 TO 24-11-2009

Two day’s Civil Defence Training-cum-awareness camp was organised by Civil Defence Jammu in which NSS students/staff members of Govt. Commerce College were imparted Civil Defence Training as well as awareness on Disaster Management and First Aid. The Principal of the College expressed her thanks for conducting such training-cum-awareness programme.


 

 

CIVIL DEFENCE DODA IMPARTED FIVE DAYS TRAINING TO NCC CADETS W.E.F 08-12-2009 TO 12-12-2009

Civil Defence Doda imparted five days Civil Defence Basic training to NCC cadets of Govt. Higher Secondary School Ghatt Doda. Sh.Javid Iqbal Azad, Chief Warden CD Doda inaugurated the training camp. During the camp, 25 NCC cadets were imparted training on first aid and disaster management.


 

 

FIVE DAYS CIVIL DEFENCE TRAINING PROGRAMME ORGANISED AT NOWSHERA W.E.F. 10-12-2009 TO 14-12-2009

Civil Defence Nowshera organised five days Civil Defence training camp at Govt. Higher Sec.
Nowshera. During the camp, 120 students were imparted Civil Defence Training in various skills like fire-fighting, first-aid, earthquake etc.


 

 

NEWS IN BRIEF:

  • To educate the people of Udhampur town about the various measures of safety to be adopted in the event of war, fire incidents, natural calamity, accidents etc., Civil Defence Organisation Udhampur organised an awareness camp in the premises of Court complex, Udhampur on 07-11-2009 under the supervision of Sh.Bodh Raj, Dy.Controller Civil Defence Udhampur.
  • A matador met with an accident near CD Town Poonch on 10-11-2009. Civil Defence volunteers and VHGs alongwith CD ambulance reached the spot and rescued/shifted injured persons to District Hospital.
  • Two days Civil Defence awareness cum live demonstration programme was organised at Govt. Degree College for women Kathua w.e.f 16th to 17th Nov. 2009. During the programme Civil Defence experts displayed live demonstration to save the causalities from multi-storey buildings and acquainted the participants about using CD skills & techniques during disasters.
  • Sh.Chanderjeet Singh, Dy.SP alongwith Sh.Khalil-Ur-Rehman, Dy.SP inspecting the VHGs parade at CTI HG/CD Jammu
    Central Training Institute HG/CD Jammu organised 06 weeks Basic training course w.e.f 16-11-2009 to 27-12-2009. The course was attended by 25 Homeguard volunteers and were imparted training in Basic Drill and Discipline.
  • On 18-11-2009, a fire broke out in the upper storey of Police Station Sadar, Srinagar adjacent to Aux. Police 1st Bn. The upper storey of the building was gutted completely. However, other portion of the building was save due to great efforts of Jawans of Aux. Police 1st Bn. Srinagar.
  • One day Civil Defence awareness camp was organised at Govt. Middle & High Schools of Kalideh, Sunderbani on 20-11-2009. During the camp students of both the schools were acquainted with the role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. Smt.Bimla Pathania, Dy.Divisional Warden highlighted the Civil Defence activities in the town.
  • Civil Defence instructor delivering lecture to the NCC cadets during a CD awareness camp
    On 28-11-2009, Civil Defence organised one day awareness camp on Disaster Management and First aid among the NCC cadets of NCC camp Nagrota.
  • One day Civil Defence awareness camp was organised in Govt. Higher Secondary School Ghatt Doda on 08-12-2009. About 200 students/staff members participated in the camp.
  • Five days Civil Defence training programme was organised by CD Poonch w.e.f. 15-12-2009 to 19-12-2009. During the camp, 30 NCC cadets were imparted Civil Defence training on first aid, fire-fighting and Disaster Management.
