ACHIEVEMENTS OF HOME GUARDS/CIVIL DEFENCE & SDRF J&K
(JANUARY 2014 TO NOVEMBER 2014)


ENGAGEMENT & TRAININGS/DUTIES OF HOMEGUARD VOLUNTEERS

During the period, 280 Homeguard volunteers were engaged in J&K Homeguard organisation and 383 Homeguards volunteers undergone Basic, Advanced, Refresher and capsule Training Courses at Central Training Institute’s of Homeguards/Civil Defence at Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, 330 Homeguards volunteers were deployed on Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2014 at the important places i.e. Baltal, Pahalgam, Sheshnag, Railpathri, Sangam, Nunwan, Chandanwari, Pissutop, Panjtarni, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Chichi Mata, Batote alongwith SDRF personnel & Civil Defence volunteers on rotational basis while 390 VHGs were deployed for traffic duty with Police in J&K during the period.

ENROLMENT OF CIVIL DEFENCE WARDENS & VOLUNTEERS

Civil Defence J&K enrolled about 1645 Civil Defence wardens and about 9367 Civil Defence volunteers in various CD towns of J&K during the year-2014

CIVIL DEFENCE AWARENESS CAMPS

Civil Defence J&K organised about 250 awareness camps in various CD towns of the state in which a large number of general masses were acquainted with the aims, objectives and importance of Civil Defence during disaster management. Besides various lectures on the topic “Civil Defence and Mitigation of Disaster” were also delivered in schools/colleges of J&K districts by CD organisation to create awareness among the youth about Civil Defence.

CD DEMONSTRATIONS / MOCK EXERCISES

Civil Defence J&K conducted 41 CD Demonstrations/Mock exercises in various CD towns in which live demonstrations on Fire-Fighting, First aid, Rescue operations from higher buildings were exhibited. Besides about 146 Rescue operations were also conducted during landslide, floods, road accidents etc. by CD rescue teams in various CD Towns of the State.

CIVIL DEFENCE TRAININGS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE STATE

During the period, 128 training camps were organised in various CD towns of J&K in which about 9367 CD volunteers were trained in various Disaster Management techniques during disaster like Earthquake, Fire-fighting, Flood, First aid, shifting of casualty, Rescue operations from higher buildings with the help of ropes and ladders etc. Besides, three Civil Defence Wardens undergone course on “01-Emergency trauma Management for Medical officers” and three Civil Defence Wardens undergone course on “05-Community Disaster Preparedness for CD wardens” at NCDC Nagpur.

W.E.F. AUGUST 2014 TO NOVEMBER 2014

INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE HG/CD & SDRF J&K INTERACTED WITH SDRF OFFICERS/OFFICIALS AT BATTALION HQ. JAMMU

Sh. J.P Singh, IPS Inspector General of Police Hgds/CD & SDRF J&K took salute at Battalion Quarter Guard during his visit at SDRF 2nd Bn. Hqrs. Jammu on 12-11-2014

Sh. J.P Singh, IPS Inspector General of Police Hgds/CD & SDRF J&K has joined in this organisation and visited SDRF 2nd Bn. Hqrs. Jammu on 12th November 2014. Sh.Stanzin Norboo, SSP, Commandant alongwith other G.O’s of the Bn. welcomed the IGP. The Guard of Honour was presented to the IGP at Bn. Quarter Guard. The IGP inspected the latest Rescue Equipments available in the Bn. and also desired for projecting the demand of other rescue equipments which are not available in the Bn. The IGP also witnessed the demonstrations presented by the SDRF personnel on ‘Fire Fighting, Collapsed Structure, Search and Rescue and Flood Rescue at Bn. Hqrs. Jammu. He appreciated the experience achieved by the SDRF personnel in presenting the demonstration.

The IGP also interacted with the officers and Jawans of the Bn. and advised them to keep physically fit and improve themselves more in a better and technical way to meet any eventuality arising out of any natural or manmade disaster. He asked the Officers to go through the literature of latest Rescue Equipments and share their experiences with Jawans of the Bn. to get them well trained in handling these equipments frequently as their services are meant for saving the precious lives and property of the people at the time of disaster. Sh. T.D Saini , SSP, SO to ADGP, Sh.Vikas Gupta, SSP, Divisional Commandant Hgds Jammu and Sh. Bodh Raj Dy.SP Principal CTI Hgds Jammu were also present on the occasion.


 

STATE DISASTER RESPONSE FORCE TEAM RESCUED SIX LABOURERS FROM DEBRIS AT SRINAGAR

On 22-08-2014, six labourers from Bihar rescued by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after they were trapped under the debris of a house which collapsed during renovation work. The SDRF launched the rescue operation around 11.40 am soon after receiving information about the house collapsed at Hyderpora locality in Srinagar – Airport road. After putting in strenuous efforts and pressing into service all available rescue equipments, the SDRF team rescued and retrieved the six labourers safely. They were immediately rushed to hospital for check-up and treatment. The house, belonging to Irfan Ahmad Kawoosa, was being renovated when it collapsed, trapping the group of labourers hailing from Bihar.

Sh.S.M.Sahai,IPS Additional Director General of Police, Armed J&K (the then also look after the charge of ADGP HG/CD & SDRF J&K) who was constantly monitoring the rescue operation, appreciated the exemplary performance exhibited by SDRF personnel while saving the lives of labourers and announced a cash reward in favour of the rescue team.


 

CIVIL DEFENCE IN COLLABORATION WITH JKVHA CONDUCTED RELIEF & MEDICAL CAMP FOR DAL DWELLERS

Civil Defence Srinagar in collaboration with J&K Voluntary Health Association (JKVHA) organised a relief and medical camp for Gynae and General Ailments at Tinda Mohala, inside Dal Lake on 13-11-2014. The Chief Guest on the occassion was Mr A.M. Mir (IAS Retd.) Executive Director, JKVHA. Present on occasion was Nasir Ahmed Khan, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Srinagar. The Medical Camp was attended by Dr. Shivani, Dr. Shazia, Dr. Jamshed deputed by Prof. Dr. Shahnaz Taing HOD Gynae and Obstetrics LD Hospital Srinagar and another team consisting of Dr. Younis, Asstt. Surgeon Health Department, alongwith two paramedics deputed by Dr.Dildar Ahmed Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar. In all 464 patients were treated by these two medical teams covering Tinda Mohala, Akhoon Mohala, Balla Mohalla, Kand Mohala and Sheikh Mohalla of Interior Dal Lake. The patients were provided medicines free of cost.The people were also educated about healthy practices to be adopted for better health care and precautions.


 

NEWS IN BRIEF:

CIVIL DEFENCE KATHUA: Civil Defence Kathua organised two CD training camps one at Kendriya Vidyala Kathua w.e.f. 10-11-2014 to 14-11-2014 and second at Govt. Hr.Sec. School Marheen Hiranagar w.e.f. 17-11-2014 to 21-11-2014. During these camps, about 110 students participated and were imparted basic training in first aid, fire-fighting, rescue operation by the CD/SDRF instructors. Moreover CD Poonch also organised two awareness camps one at Kendriya Vidyalaya Hiranagar on 12-08-2014 and Modern Public High School Kattal Brahmana Hiranagar on 15-11-2014 in which 200 students/ staff were present on the occasion and were made aware about first aid, fire fighting and rescue operation by the experts.

During flash flood, on 05-08-2014, Civil Defence/SDRF Kathua with the help of locals rescued trapped person namely Balbir Singh and Pushpinder Singh from Ravi River Dhanna Dhanore, near Lakhanpur. Moreover, on 06-09-2014, Civil Defence Kathua also rescued some Gujjar community people who were trapped in Ujh River at Bhambarwan.

CIVIL DEFENCE AKHNOOR: Civil Defence Akhnoor organised two basic training camps one at Gurdwara Sant Baba Sunder Singh Ji Akhnoor w.e.f. 04-08-2014 to 08-08-2014 and second at Maharaja Hari Singh DAV Public School Akhnoor w.e.f 08-10-2014 to 13-10-2014. During these camps, about 130 students were imparted training in first aid, fire fighting and rescue operations by SDRF/CD instructors. Moreover, Civil Defence Akhnoor also organised eight awareness camps at Industrial Area ward No. 12 on 28-08-2014, at Gea Pota Gart Akhnoor on 09-09-2014, at Kashmiri Mohala Akhnoor Ward No. 09 on 23-09-2014, at Barda Kala Akhnoor on 24-10-2014, at W.No.6 Akhnoor on 03-11-2014, at Shanti colony on 17-11-2014, Jea Pota Ghat on 22-11-2014 and Sungal Morh Akhnoor on 25-11-2014 . During these camps, a large number of perople participated and were made aware about first aid, fire fighting and rescue operation by the CD/SDRF instructors.

CIVIL DEFENCE RAJOURI: Civil Defence Rajouri conducted five awareness camps in Rajouri at Elite higher Secondary School Thanamandi Rajouri on 25-09-2014, at Govt. Girls Hr.Sec.School Rajouri on 18-11-2014, at Muslim Education Trust Thanamandi on 15-11-2014, at International Hr.Sec.School Peer Ganju Rajouri on 13-11-2014 and at Army Goodwill School Choudhary Nar on 12-11-2014. During these camps about 1200 students/civilians participated and were made aware about Civil Defence and its importance during disaster. Moreover, Civil Defence Rajouri also conducted two training camps one at Govt. Higher Secondary School Darhal w.e.f 29-09-2014 to 09-10-2014 and other at Higher Secondary School Manjakot Rajouri w.e.f.10-11-2014 to 14-11-2014. During the camps, about 200 students participated and were imparted basic training in first aid, fire fighting and rescue operations by CD/SDRF instructors. Civil Defence wardens/volunteers also performed Independence day duty with district Police at Rajouri w.e.f 12-08-2014 to 15-08-2014.

CIVIL DEFENCE UDHAMPUR: CD Udhampur conducted five awareness camps at Govt. High School Thanoa on 20-08-2014, at Bhartya Vidhiya Mandir High School on 22-08-2014,at City Middle School Udhampur on 23-08-2014, at Shiv Nagar Udhampur on 07-11-2014 and at Govt. Girls High School Sacani on 10-11-2014. During these camps about 1000 students /civilians participated and were acquainted with Civil Defence and Disaster management skills by the SDRF/ CD instructors under the supervision of Sh.Bodh Raj,Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Udhampur. Moreover, Civil Defence Udhampur also organised five basic training camps at Govt. High School Jaganoo w.e.f 30-09-2014 to 04-10-2014, at Govt. High School Kaghaote w.e.f 13-10-2014 to 17-10-2014, at Govt. High School Moud w.e.f 20-10-2014 to 30-10-2014, at Common Public Hr.Sec.School Sangoor Udhampur w.e.f. 13-11-2014 to 18-11-2011 and Govt.Girls High School Sacani Udhampur w.e.f. 24-11-2014 to 28-11-2014. During these camps, about 325 students participated and were imparted Civil Defence basic training in fire-fighting, first aid and rescue operation by the CD/SDRF instructors.

CIVIL DEFENCE DODA: Civil Defence Doda organised four basic training camps at Govt. Hr. Sec. School Bhagwah w.e.f 01-09-2014 to 03-09-2014, Govt. Hr. Sec. School Bhella w.e.f 26-09-2014 to 01-10-2014, at JNV Arnora Ghat Doda w.e.f 14-10-2014 to 18-10-2014 and at Govt.Hr. Secondary School Maloeti Bhaderwah w.e.f. 03-11-2014 to 11-11-2014. During these camps, about 200 students/civilians participated and were imparted basic training in first aid, fire fighting and rescue operations by CD/SDRF instructors. Moreover, CD/SDRF rescue teams of Doda also conducted various rescue operations during landslide, road accident and building collapsed at Doda.

CIVIL DEFENCE NOWSHERA: Civil Defence Nowshera organised two CD training camp at Govt. High School Lam Nowshera w.e.f. 17-11-2014 to 21-11-2014 in which about 68 students were imparted basic training in first aid, fire-fighting and rescue operation by the CD/SDRF instructors. CD Nowshara also organised one day CD awareness camp at Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School Nowshera on 30-09-2014 in which 400 students/staff paricipated and were made aware about role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. Smt. Jabeen Akhter, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Rajouri also highlighted the Civil Defence activities on the occasion. Moreover, Civil Defence wardens/volunteers also performed law and order duty with local Police on the eve of Dussehra at Ram Lela Ground Nowshera on 03-10-2014.

CIVIL DEFENCE POONCH: Civil Defence Poonch organised three CD awareness camps one at Govt. Middle School Bawli Poonch on 27-09-2014, second at Govt. High School Sanai Surankote Poonch on 18-11-2014 and third at Govt. High School Draba Surankot on 24-11-2014 in which about 260 students participated and were made aware about role and importance of Civil Defence during disaster. Moreover, Civil Defence Poonch also organised 05 days CD basic training camp at Govt. High School Chandimarh Poonch w.e.f 27-10-2014 to 31-10-2014. During the camps, about 162 students participated and were imparted basic training in first aid, fire fighting and rescue operations by CD/SDRF instructors.

CIVIL DEFENCE SAMBA: Civil Defence Samba organised about thirteen awareness camps in Samba at different places i.e. at village Gouran on 05-08-2014, at Village Sandi on 11-08-2014, at Arvind Ghosh Higher secondary School Vijaypur on 23-08-2014, at Chack Dulma on 23-08-2014, at Purmandal Samba on 03-09-2014, at Nagrota Utterbehni, Samba on 13-09-2014, at Guru Nanak Dev Ji Hr. Sec. School Ramgarh Vijaypur on Samba on 16-09-2014, at Mangu Chack, Samba on 04-10-2014, at village Patyari Katlan Samba on 10-10-2014, at Sun Pharma Laboratory Ltd. Factory Sidco Industrial complex Samba on 15-10-2014, at Village Sumb Samba on 29-10-2014, at Nand Samba on 21-11-2014 and Govt.Hr.Sec.School Rajpura Samba on 25-11-2014. During these camps, a large number of students and civilians participated and were acquainted with Civil Defence activities and its importance during disaster by the CD/SDRF instructors. Sh.Ashutosh Sharma, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Samba also briefed about Civil Defence and disaster management during the camps. Moreover, Civil Defence Samba organised 05 days training camp at Daini Samba w.e.f. 25-08-2014 to 29-08-2014 and at Sargal Samba w.e.f. 03-11-2014 to 10-11-2014 in which about 200 civilians participated and were imparted basic training in first aid, fire fighting and rescue operations by CD/SDRF instructors.

On 23-08-2014, Civil Defence/SDRF rescue team Samba fished out a dead body of a lady namely Poli Devi wife of Ashok Kumar from river Basanter near village Samotha Goran Samba and shifted to District Hospital Samba. Moreover, on 06-09-2014, SDRF /Civil Defence rescue team launched rescue operations at village Nanga Ramgarh when a steamer of Army was turned turtle having about 22 personnel of BSF and Army who were all rescued safely. The Dy.Commissioner Samba and SSP Samba were also present during the rescue operation and highly appreciated the role of CD/SDRF Rescue teams.

Moreover, on 23-09-2014, Civil Defence Samba conducted plantation drive at SDRF component Arazi, Samba. Sh.Ashutosh Sharma, Dy.SP Dy. Controller CD Samba addressed the SDRF/Civil Defence personnel and Civil Defence wardens and highlighted the need and importance of trees during the rainy season.

CIVIL DEFENCE JAMMU: Civil Defence Jammu organised eleven basic training camps in different places of Jammu i.e. at Neha Ghar Kachi Chowni Jammu w.e.f 04-08-2014 to 08-08-2014, at BNN Hospital Talab Tillo Jammu w.e.f 12-08-2014 to 19-08-2014, New Modern Higher Secondary School Sainik Colony Jammu w.e.f 21-08-2014 to 26-08-2014, at Forest guard training School Doomi Akhnoor w.e.f 25-08-2014to 29-08-2014,at Soil conservation training School RS Pura w.e.f 17-09-2014 to 22-09-2014, at New Modern Degree College Sainik Colony Jammu w.e.f 18-09-2014 to 23-09-2014, Polytechnic college Purkhoo Camp Jammu w.e.f 08-10-2014 to 13-10-2014 , at Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu w.e.f. 13-11-2014 to18-11-2014, at Janipur Colony w.e.f. 21-11-2014 to 25-11-2014, Govt. Girls Higher Secondary Gujar Nagar 25-11-2014 to 29-11-2014 and Shiksha Niketan Jeevan Nagar Jammu w.e.f. 26-11-2014 to 30-11-2014.

During these camps, about 500 students, hospital staff members, civilians and volunteers participated and were imparted basic training in fire-fighting, first-aid, rescue operation by the Civil Defence/SDRF instructors under the supervision of Smt.Tajinder Kour, Dy.SP Dy.Controller CD Jammu. Moreover, , Civil Defence Jammu organised one day Civil Defence awareness camp at Trikuta Degree College Nardani Raipur Jammu and NCC camp Nagrota on 24-09-2014 and on 18-11-2014 respectively. During these camps about 100 NSS cadets/255 NCC cadets participated and were made aware about Civil Defence and its importance during disaster by the CD/SDRF instructors.

During recent flood, Civil Defence wardens/volunteers participated in various rescue operations at Bhagwati Nagar and Tawi Bridge. Moreover, Civil Defence wardens also assisted the people to shift in safe places during flash flood at Jammu.

CIVIL DEFENCE KISHTWAR: Civil Defence Kishtwar conducted two basic training camps one at Govt. High School Dool Kishtwar and second at Sir Iqbal High School Kishtwar w.e.f 23-09-2014 to 27-09-2014 and w.e.f 23-10-2014 to 27-10-2014 respectively. During these camps, about 115 students participated and were imparted basic training in first aid, fire fighting and rescue operations by CD/SDRF instructors under the supervision of Sh.Ajay Dubey, Dy.SP I/C Dy.Controller CD Kishtwar.

CIVIL DEFENCE SUNDERBANI: Civil Defence Sunderbani organized one day CD awareness camp at Govt. High School Dokh Kangri Sunderbani on 16-10-2014in which 100 students participated and were made aware about Civil Defence. Moroever, CD Sunderbani also organised five days CD training camp at Govt. Boys Hr.Sec.School Sunderbani w.e.f. 11-11-2014 to 15-11-2014 in which about 121 studetns were imparted basic training in Civil Defence and DM skills by the CD/SDRF instructors.

CIVIL DEFENCE SRINAGAR: After recent devastated flood in state, Civil Defence/SDRF Srinagar performed work of spray /cleaning of Hospital, Roads and burning of Garbage wastes at Lal Chowk Srinagar in which about 30 civil Defence wardens/ volunteers and SDRF personnel participated. Moreover, CD Srinagar also distributed relief in collaboration with HMP foundation at Shanpora Tailbal Srinagar on 15-10-2014.

CD Srinagar also organised 05 days basic training camp at Alochi Bagh Srinagar w.e.f. 20-10-2014 to 27-10-2014. During the camp, about 40 people participated and were imparted CD basic training in fire fighting, first aid and rescue operation during disaster by the Civil Defence/ SDRF instructors. Also, CD Srinagar distributed handcart in collaboration with SEVA BHARTI at Swami Prem Vivekananda Trust Srinagar on 28-10-2014. Moreover, CD Srinagar also organised medical camps at Shalimar and Alamgari Bazar Srinagar on 3rd and 4th Nov.2014 and one day awareness camp at Girls Hr.Sec.School Nawakadal Srinagar on 18-11-2014.

CIVIL DEFENCE ANANTNAG: Civil Defence Anantnag conducted 05 days Civil Defence training camp at Govt. Hr. Sec. School Wanpoh Anantnag w.e.f 01-09-2014 to 03-09-2014. During the camps, about 100 students participated and were imparted Civil Defence basic
training in fire fighting, first aid and rescue operation during disaster by the Civil Defence/SDRF instructors. Moreover, CD Anantnag also imparted training to NSS volunteers. During recent devastated flood in Kashmir, CD/SDRF Anantnag also conducted various rescue operations at Nowpora Akhran, Harnag, Khanabal of District Anantnag.

CIVIL DEFENCE BUDGAM: Civil Defence Budgam organised two awareness camps one at Govt. High School Chandpora on 12-08-2014 and second at Tawheedia Educational institute Ressu Beerwah on 13-08-2014. During, these camps, a large number of students/ staff members participated and were acquainted with Civil Defence skills and its importance during disaster. Moreover, CD Budgam also organised two days training programme on disaster management and mitigation at DPL Ompora Budgam on 26-08-2014 to 27-08-2014 in which 50 Police/CRPF Personnel participated and were briefed by CD/SDRF instructors. A mock drill exercise was also conducted on the occasion by the experts. CD volunteers/wardens also performed Muharam duty at Khanda, Magam and Budgm on 1st, 4th and 5th Oct.2014

During recent flash flood in Kashmir, CD/SDRF Budgam conducted rescue operations at Magam/Beerwah on 05-09-2014, at Qumiroh Arizal on 06-09-2014, at Narbal Kavoosa/ Bandinoora /Sozith on 07-09-2014 and at SMHS Hospital Srinagar on 15-09-2014.

CIVIL DEFENCE BARAMULLA: On 14-10-2014 and 27-11-2014, CD Baramulla organised one day awareness camp at ITI Baramulla and AMT School respectively. During the camps, about 500 students participated and were acquainted with Civil Defence and its importance during disaster by the CD/SDRF instructors. Moreover, on the eve of Moharram, First aid medical camp was also organised on 04-11-2014.CD Baramulla also imparted training to enrolled CD volunteers at Govt. High School Sangrama Sopore w.e.f. 25-11-2014 to 29-11-2014. During recent flood CD/SDRF Baramulla conducted rescue operation at Timehagma Tangmarg on 04-09-2014, at Shari Tangmarg and MP Check Post on 05-09-2014, at Kunzer Tangmarg on 06-09-2014, Sher Colony/Adipora Sopore on 07-09-2014 and at Zaingir/Hatlangoo Magraypora Sopore on 09-09-2014. During these rescue operation, a large number of people rescued and shifted to safe place. Moreover, on 13-10-2014, CD Baramulla also organised Medical Camp at Sher Colony Sopore in which a large number of people participated and were examined by the Doctors.

DURING THE FLOODS OF SEPTEMBER 2014

JAMMU PROVINCE

The incessant rain in the state which started on Aug 30th took alarming proportion when on 2nd September SDRF office started receiving information from concerned quarters i.e. Deptt. of Irrigation and Flood control that water level in both major rivers i.e. Chenab and Tawi has risen to a level which is beyond the holding capacity of these rivers. On 3rd September Deputy Commissioner (Chairman District Disaster Management Authority) Jammu alerted all concerned to gear up for any eventuality.

Keeping in view the probability of eventuality, the following preparations were made at the Bn. Headquarters.

  • A round the clock control room was set up under the supervision of a Gazetted Officer.
  • Five teams comprising of (15) officials with at least (03) swimmers each were immediately put on alert with necessary equipments i.e. Inflatable rubber boats with OBM, fiber boats, ropes, torches, rubber tubes, life jackets etc.
  • Contact was established with officials of Irrigation and Flood control Deptt. to monitor the threat level of Chenab/ Tawi rivers and possibility of any breach leading to flooding of low lying areas.
  • A constant liaison with the senior formations and civil administration was established.
  • All components present at the district headquarters were also alerted and situation monitored.
  • Submission of daily report to the concerned quarters.
  • Revisiting of disaster hit spots for feedback.

DETAILS OF THE RESCUE OPERATIONS

A total of about 30 rescue operations were conducted in Jammu province and around (300) civilians were evacuated to safe places. The District wise details of the place of operation and the number of people who were rescued or dead bodies recovered is given as under:

KASHMIR PROVINCE

SDRF Team Kulgam conducted Rescue operation in Nowpora (Kulgam) during intervening night of 3-4/9/2014 and evacuated affected people to safe places. The team conducted rescue activities at Asithal Kulgam and shifted the local population to safe zones.
SDRF Team Anantnag participated in Rescue operations at Nowpora Kulgam on 3/9/2014. The Team rescued one injured lady from Green Colony Eid Gah Anantnag and provided first aid to her. They also undertook rescue activities at F.M. Gali Anantnag and evacuated the affected families to safer places.
SDRF Team Ganderbal conducted rescue measures at Shadipora (Sumbal) as the bund of river in the area breached.
SDRF Team from Baramulla conducted rescue operations at Kunzer (Tangmarg) on 3/9/2014. The team evacuated seven Bakarwal families putting up in tents in a Middle School at Tumberhama, after they came under heavy floods. They were shifted to safe zone.
SDRF Team Srinagar: During intervening night of 3-4/9/2014 the Doodh-Ganga bund adjacent to Govt. Bone & Joint Hospital breached resulting in flash-floods in the hospital premises and nearby residential colonies. The SDRF team from BN Hqrs Baghat conducted rescue operations shifted the IPD patients and their attendants from ground floor to upper floors of the hospital. They also evacuated the persons trapped under water to safe places.
  • On 4/9/2014 SDRF team comprising of (100) personnel at Pantha Chowk rescued and evacuated about (200) families to safer zones who were got trapped under heavy floods. Some BSF men trapped in floods were also rescued by the SDRF team in the area.
  • SDRF Team conducted Rescue operations at Hamdania Colony Bemina, Mushtaq Colony, Gulbahar Colony on 4-9-2014 and evacuated (300) families from these inundated areas to safe places.
  • On 4th and 5th Sept.-2014, the SDRF personnel conducted rescue operations in Khalid Abad, Jehangir Colony, Gulberg Colony Baghat Burzalla areas which were submerged and evacuated the affected families to safer places.
  • During intervening night of 6-7/9/2014, the SDRF teams conducted rescue operations in Natipora, Budshah Nagar, Chanapora, Mehjoor Nagar, Nowgam, Padshahi Bagh areas which was flooded with water. They rescued and evacuated more than one thousand people from these areas to the safer places.
  • On 7-9-2014 and 8-9-2014 multiple SDRF teams conducted rescue operations in Nowgam, Natipora, Pirbagh, Nadru (Gulshan Abad), Rambagh, Jawahar Nagar, Mehjoor Nagar, Rajbagh, Tankipora, Budshah Nagar Iram Lane, Azad Basti, Pamposh Colony and evacuated more than three thousand people in order to move towards the safer places. They also distributed drinking water among the flood victims.
  • From 16th September the SDRF teams have conducted search operations in Jawahar Nagar and Rajbagh localities and retrieved dead bodies trapped under the debris of collapsed houses / structures due to devastating floods. The SDRF personnel also evacuated the important households of several flood affected families of these areas.
  • From 21st September, 2014 to 26th Sep-2014, the SDRF camp was established at SMHS Hospital Srinagar and seventy five personnel each in two shifts per day pressed into service along with Wipers, stick brooms, for cleaning of whole hospital, damaged equipment / records and furniture. Shri Omar Abdullah, Hon’ble Chief Minister J&K, Hon’ble Health Minister, J&K, DGP J&K and ADGP HG/CD/SDRF, J&K also visited the SMHS Hospital during the process of cleanliness.
